Boeing reveals hypersonic jet from the future that’ll cruise London to New York in 2 HOURS

Taking a trip across the Atlantic to NYC could be cut to just over two hours on Boeing’s ambitious new hypersonic jet .

The futuristic concept cruiser was unveiled by Boeing’s CEO Dennis A. Muilenburg at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics conference in Atlanta this week.

“We’re excited about the potential of hypersonic technology to connect the world faster than ever before,” said Kevin Bowcutt, senior technical fellow and chief scientist of hypersonics.

“Boeing is building upon a foundation of six decades of work designing, developing and flying experimental hypersonic vehicles, which makes us the right company to lead the effort in bringing this technology to market in the future.”

A trip over to New York from London currently takes about 7.5 hours. Travelling at Mach 5 (3,836mph) would cut that down to just over two hours.

You’d need to be careful about which film you choose to watch – you’ll only get time for one.

Boeing has stressed that the above plane is just a concept at this point – but that the technology could have “civilian and military applications”.

Engineers at the company reckon it will take about 20 or 30 years to develop the tech to a point at which customers can take advantage. Several other Chinese aviation companies are also researching hypersonic travel.
